Cipla Excela Moisturizer Review: Is It Good for Oily Skin?

Finding a good moisturizer for oily skin can be challenging. Most moisturizers leave oily skin feeling greasy and sticky and contain comedogenic substances that can worsen acne and pimples. So, I decided to test Cipla Excela Moisturizer, which is specifically formulated for oily skin types. Let’s see how this product performs.

product description

  • Ideal for oily and acne-prone skin, as it helps reduce sebum production.
  • Supports the skin’s natural moisture by balancing water and lipids in the top layer.
  • Non-comedogenic, ensuring it won’t clog pores.
  • Provides a matte finish for a shine-free look.

Cipla Excela Moisturizer Review: Comprehensive Breakdown

Packaging

The product comes in a white cylindrical-shaped bottle packaging with a pump dispenser and is travel-friendly. The bottle comes with a cap and is layered with paper box packaging which mentions various details about the moisturiser.

Texture

It has a very lightweight lotion-like consistency which spreads and absorbs easily on the skin. It does not feel heavy on the skin.

Fragrance

This is a fragrance-free product, so there is no significant smell. I would say it is neutral, but if you smell closely, you can detect a light chemical scent that disappears soon. For people who don’t like perfumes in their product, it’s a good option.

My experience using Cipla Excela Moisturizer

My skin type is a little oily to normal during the monsoon and somewhat dry and non-sensitive during the winter. Now I hardly ever break out. Niacinamide, one of the main components in this moisturizer, aids in reducing skin dryness and enhancing its barrier function.

I gave this moisturizer a try in the summer season when India’s humidity fluctuated greatly from month to month. My skin is normally dry in low humidity and oily in high humidity. It felt very lightweight on the skin and did not hydrate my dry skin enough. I had to reapply it after a couple of hours After a couple of hours.

This moisturizer was sufficient for the entire day at times of high humidity. It felt very light on my skin and did not irritate or break me out. I recommend Cipla Excela moisturizer for normal skin types during hot weather, especially during hot and humid weather. This moisturizer might not be enough during the winter because the air is dryer.

Cipla Excela moisturizer review

Despite being formulated for oily and acne-prone skin, Excela moisturizer has several ingredients that can cause breakouts. Even though an ingredient’s performance when used alone and when combined with other ingredients varies, it is better to be cautious if your skin is prone to breakouts.

One of the main components of this moisturizer is niacinamide. Niacinamide will help in barrier repair, and skin brightening and will improve skin dryness thereby enhancing barrier performance. Our skin barrier is the protective layer of the skin. It shields the skin from damaging environmental factors that could trigger allergies or irritate the skin. Skin with a poor barrier is more prone to irritation.

Ingredient analysis

The good

  1. Cipla Excela moisturiser contains niacinamide. It is a great ingredient that reduces inflammation, dark spots, and redness, minimizes pore appearance, and has anti-aging and anti-acne benefits as well. The good thing is niacinamide is listed second on the list of ingredients, which means it contains a high concentration of niacinamide. However, the percentage of niacinamide is not disclosed by the brand.
  2. Glycerin – It is one of the best humectant ingredients out there, it enhances the skin barrier, increases product shelf life, and helps in increasing the penetration of other ingredients.
  3. Enantia Chlorantha bark extract – It has antibacterial properties.
  4. Oleanolic acid has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant characteristics.

The bad

  1. It contains a lot of potential acne-causing ingredients
    1. Butylene Glycol
    2. Ethylhexyl Palmitate
    3. Sorbitan Oleate
    4. Sorbitan Laurate
    5. Cetyl Palmitate
    6. Cetearyl Alcohol
    7. PEG 100 Stearate
    8. Triethanolamine
  1. It contains phenoxyethanol, which is generally used as a preservative or stabilizer for other ingredients. There is conflicting data about the safety of this ingredient. It is considered safe at a 1% or lower concentration. This ingredient might provide an allergic reaction in some people and pregnant and breastfeeding women should avoid this chemical.
  2. It contains several ingredients that can cause skin irritation.

which skin type should use Cipla Excela moisturizer?

Excela moisturiser

Cipla moisturizer contains a lot of acne-causing ingredients, although most of them have a low comedogenic rating of 2-3, which means a low risk of clogging your pores. There is one ingredient that has a high comedogenic rating and it is high on the ingredient list of this moisturizer.

So, in my opinion, this moisturizer might cause further breakouts. However not all oily skin types have acne problems, so they can use this moisturizer. Oily skin types generally find moisturizers greasy and sticky on their faces, and a lot of moisturizers cause breakouts on their skin.

Sebum plays an important role in skin hydration by creating a lipid-based occlusive film on the skin which prevents water evaporation from the skin. Oily skin types have increased the production of sebum. It also contains antioxidants, so oily skin has good antioxidant protection. Sebum is also a great occlusive moisturizer.

So occlusive moisturiser is not necessary for people with oily skin. But sometimes you might have oily as well as dry skin. This happens because the skin barrier has been damaged. In that case, you will need a barrier repair moisturizer.

you can buy this moisturizer here.

Sebamed care gel, Laneige cream skin refiner, and Neutrogena hydroboost water gel are great moisturizers for oily skin.

What products are good for oily skin?

We do not recommend Cipla Excela Moisturiser for oily skin types because it contains a lot of comedogenic ingredients, i.e., they can clog your pores and cause breakouts. But if your skin does not suffer from acne and breakouts but is oily, then you can use Cipla Excela moisturizer. This moisturizer also contains ingredients that can cause skin irritation, so sensitive skin types should avoid it.

Should dry skin type use Cipla Excela Moisturizer?

This moisturizer is too light for dry skin, so I do not recommend it for dry skin. Instead, I recommend Cipla Excela Moisturizer for people with normal skin because their skin does not suffer from acne, oiliness, pore-clogging, or dryness.

Is Cipla Excela Moisturizer good for combination skin?

For the dry parts, it may not be hydrating enough, and for the oily parts, it may cause breakouts.
